A relative "Remembers Wayman and Aunt Belle, said she wore two pistols on her hips and was a good shot!" "The early 1890s saw the beginning of a gold and silver mining town named after Richard Parks Bland of Missouri whose fight against the demonetization of silver had gained him national fame. Bland's most amazing feat was its location. Tucked along a narrow canyon aperture only sixty feet wide, the town had over fifty buildings including four sawmills, two banks, a newspaper, a hotel, stock exchange, opera house, a school, a church, over a dozen saloons and miscellaneous stores. Bland was a lusty, booming, hell-raising, hard working metropolis of over three thousand people until 1904 when production began to show signs of weakening. Soon thereafter, Bland's boom had passed. The town is now deserted and stands on private property closely guarded under lock and key."

Captain Hugh Dunn

The Dunns were an old prominent family of Cornwall, England. Some say Hugh was born Plymouth, Mass. about 1645 and some say he came from Dover, NH where he was a landholder as early as 1663, then to the banks of Raritan, in NJ in 1660-70. "The Beginnings of Three New Jersey Lines, Runyon Dunn Drake" says High Dunn, Vincent Runyon and Francis Drake were neighbors when they came to the U.S. and Hugh was a very devout and religious person. Carolyn Marvin says Hugh b. 1642 NJ. Will proved 10 Dec 1694.

Hugh was a Captain of NJ Militia

Elizabeth Drake

Elizabeth's father, Francis Drake was another early settler in the Hopewell Baptist Community in 1668. He was a kinsman of the Great Elizabethan Admiral, Sir Francis Drake. It is believed that he was the grandson of Thomas Drake, brother of Sir Francis Drake. Some say Elizabeth was b. Dover, NH. "The Beginnings of Three New Jersey Family Lines" p 26 says Elizabeth, 2nd child of Francis and Mark Drake, b. in Portsmouth. Elizabeth and Hugh married 24 years and had 9 children. She survived Hugh.

Captain Francis Drake

Carolyn Marvin has Francis b. 1618 Devon Co., England. "The Beginnings of Three New Jersey Families" p 18 say in 1652 Francis, Mary (his wife) and probably one child were living in Strawberry Bank on western side of Piscataqua River (the stream that now divides New Hampshire from Maine.) Strawberry Bank was changed to Portsmouth about 1653. On 17 Apr 1654, the town assigned to Francis a house now on Noble's Island (now northern part of Portsmouth), and in July 1655 he obtained another house and lot south of Great Bay.

Great Bay is now Greenland. Francis Drake served on the grand jury of Norfolk Co. in 1663 and he and Nathaniel Drake were surveyors of highways in 1663. In 1668 Francis and Mary disposed of their Greenland property and with 2 years the family (5 in all) moved to Piscataway. Their only daughter was married there in Dec of 1670. 300 acres were allotted to the family of 5. On 15 July 1675, Francis was make Captain of Township Militia. In March 1677/78 200 acres were surveyed for him. Francis was also Justice of the Peace and Judge of Co. in 1682.

Robert Drake

"History of Piscataway Township 1666-1697" p 63 says "Robert Drake 1580 - 1667 of Devonshire, England settled as early as 1635 on Piscataqua River, being a man of eminent piety. His son, Francis Drake 1615- 1687, upon his father's death moved in 1668 with his wife Mary (Walker) and 3 sons to Piscataway.

Captain George Tigner

Captain George Tigner was "Skipper of a Schooner," owning a line of schooners plying between Baltimore and Liverpool. Durng the Revolutionary War, the British confiscated the ships.
George moved to Acomac County, Virginia, and engaged in farming until his death.

Richard R. McIntire

Richard Mclntire, after settling near Shawneetown for a year about May 1837, located per-manently at the Shawnee Crossing on Choctaw.

Information about two of his sons, age 12 and 14, being killed and scalped by Indians (possibly Shawnees) near Choctaw TX about 1838, from book "Indian Depredations in Texas" by J.W. Wilbarger. As Kentucky is designated in history as "The Dark and Bloody Ground, ---- so ought Grayson County be known as the battle ground of the Lone Star State, and be given precedence by its baptism of blood and human sacrifice."

Served as a private soldier in Republic of Texas Rangers stationed on the frontier of Fannin Co. in 1840 and was paid $150.00 in 1850. Discharge No 17.

Served on a Grand Jury in Fannin Co. convened in November 1840.
